Laser Skin Resurfacing (“Laser Peel”)
What is laser skin resurfacing or laser peel?
Laser skin resurfacing is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures being performed at Med Spas and physician’s offices today. Our modern technology lets us carefully control the depth of the peel, so we can allow you to determine the outcome of your procedure. We use the Laser Peel™ erbium:YAG laser. This laser delivers a specific wavelength of light energy to the skin. Absorption of the energy by water in the skin allows us to safely and precisely vaporize very fine layers of the epidermis. The result is instant improvement of sun and age-damaged skin. The process also helps tighten your skin and stimulate collagen regeneration for a smoother and more youthful appearance.
What options do you offer for laser skin resurfacing?
We are proud to offer two options of the laser peel to fit your treatment goals and objectives. The first variation is often referred to as the “lunch time peel”. This procedure is painless and is usually performed in about 30 minutes. Patients typically leave the spa slightly red and experience a slight peeling of the outermost layers of the epidermis. Most of our patients can go right back to work after having this procedure, yet the results are the equivalent of three to five microdermabrasion treatments.
The second option is a medium depth skin resurfacing which typically requires a short recovery period following the treatment. The recovery period generally ranges from three to seven days depending on the depth of penetration of the treatment and your individual healing response. Your skin will be red and will peel once or twice after the procedure but the treatment will result in a significant improvement of any sun damage or fine lines that are bothering you.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive safe procedure designed to remove unwanted hair on your body and face by selectively targeting pigment inside the hair follicle generating energy in the form of heat and destroying the hair without damaging the skin. To make the treatment more comfortable, we use the latest technology to cool your skin using an integrated cooled sapphire tip with a Zimmer cooling device, which increases your comfort and safety. Diode laser technology remains the gold standard treatment of unwanted hair, delivering predictable and reliable results. We offer customized treatment programs according to your hair color, texture, and body hair location. For more information, see our Laser Hair Removal services page.
Is laser hair removal FDA cleared?
Yes, Diode 810mm Sonata Laser by Alma (formally Orion) is FDA cleared for safety and remains the gold standard treatment of unwanted hair by using CW Pulse ™ Technology – a unique technology that uses a combination of overlapping pulses to selectively heat the hair without damaging the skin, resulting in less pain with better results.
What type of laser is used?
Rejuv uses only the finest, leading edge lasers for our laser hair removal services. The laser used in our clinic is called the Sonata Laser™. This FDA approved laser brings simplicity and ease to laser hair removal. With its lager spot size and up to three pulse/sec speed, the Sonata can safely and effectively treat unwanted hair – even for some red and blonde hair types. The Sonata can also treat all skin types, including dark and tanned skin colors. Its unique combination of overlapping pulses selectively heats the hair follicles without damaging the skin. This plus an integrated cool sapphire tip helps to provide maximum patient comfort and safety.
Are there any side effects with laser hair removal?
After the treatment, you may experience a slight reddening of the skin similar to sunburn that will resolve within a few hours to a couple days. In certain instances (especially with darker complexions), temporary pigment changes may occur, but will disappear within a month or less.
What kinds of guarantees exist with laser hair removal?
No doctor can predict the exact outcome any patient will experience with laser hair removal, including pre-determining how many treatments will be required or how your hair follicles will respond after treatments. For this reason, most reputable medical practices can not guarantee your results. We will work with you on an individual basis to get the best possible results for you.

Are the results permanent?
Results vary depending on skin and hair type. Studies have shown many patients can achieve an 85-90% reduction of hair after laser hair removal treatments. As well, any remaining hair returns lighter, softer, and ultimately, less noticeable.
How long does one procedure take?
This varies depending on the area of the body. Treatments on the body or legs can take up to one hour. Smaller areas, like hands, face, and feet, may take less time.
How many treatments will be needed?
The number of treatments required depends on several factors related to specific skin types: color, thickness, density of hair, and hair growth cycles (for more info, see the following question). A series of six treatments is usually required to achieve best results in most cases.
Why does it take more than one treatment?
Hair grows in cycles. The laser only disables the hair in the active stage of growth at the time of treatment. It does, however affect the hairs in the early and late stages. The hairs that return are those that were not in the active stage of growth at the time of the treatment. They appear lighter in color and finer in texture. We do see some results after just one treatment, but a series of treatments are needed to have a significant removal of hair.
Is laser hair removal restricted to certain body areas?
Laser hair removal can be performed on just about any part of the body. The most common areas for women are the face, bikini, underarms, and legs. Men usually like to do hair removal on the back and shoulders, front of the neck (common place for ingrown hairs ), as well as the glabella (place between the eyebrows). We do arms, legs, toes, underarms, and much more. For a complete list, see our Laser Hair Removal services page.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
You likely won’t fall asleep in the treatment chair, but you will not be in pain either. The lasers we use have built in cool stream of air that cool the skin immediately before the laser fires. Most patients describe the treatment as a series of light pricks or rubber band snaps against the skin.
Does laser hair removal work for men?
Absolutely. Laser hair removal is becoming increasingly popular for men. Most want to remove unwanted hair on their back, chest, legs, shoulder, and neck. In fact, this method is quickly becoming the preferred choice for men due to the large amount of hair in these areas. Other hair removal methods for this large an area can be quite costly, time consuming, and painful. For example, laser hair removal can take approximately one hour or less to treat the entire back. That’s because laser hair removal is able to remove large amounts of hair with just one laser pulse. Electrolysis, on the other hand, can take up to 100 hours in order to treat the entire back not to mention the pain, expense, and time associated with each treatment.
Besides removing unwanted hair, what other benefits can laser hair removal provide?
Laser hair removal can also diminish the occurrence and bothersome symptoms of Pseudofolliculitis Barbae, also known as razor bumps or ingrown hairs. This happens when a hair remains underneath the skin after it becomes infected and spotted, and it can cause great discomfort. The resulting inflammation can produce permanent scarring and/or color changes of the skin, such as darkening of the skin-hyper pigmentation or the enlightening of the skin-hypo pigmentation.
Processes such as waxing, plucking, tweezing, or close shaving routinely produce a worsening of Pseudofolliculitis Barbae. These procedures might damage the hair follicle or shaft and increase future occurrences. Laser hair removal can target those highly susceptible areas or hairs on the face that may generate ingrown hairs and replace the larger “terminal” hair with smaller, thinner, “basy” or “vessels” fine hair, resulting in fewer or no outbreaks.
